Physician and Consultant Intensivist
Dr. Shanthi is a Consultant Physician and Intensivist at Thomson Medical Centre, Kota Damansara, and a former head of the ICU at Hospital Sungai Buloh.
Her journey into intensive care began when, as a medical officer, she successfully revived a patient experiencing cardiac arrest on her first on-call day—a moment she recognized as her calling.



About Dr.
Shanthi Ratnam
Dr. Shanthi is a Consultant Physician and Intensivist at Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara and leads the ICU at Hospital Sungai Buloh.
She graduated from India, earned her specialist degree in the UK, and completed her Intensive Care Medicine subspecialty in Australia, where she trained in Advanced Echocardiography. She is the only Physician Intensivist in Malaysia with a Fellowship of Intensive Care from Australia.
Dr. Shanthi manages chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, critically ill patients, and acute infectious diseases such as dengue and COVID-19. She was pivotal in expanding the ICU at Hospital Sungai Buloh into Malaysia’s largest, playing a key role during crises like H1N1.
As Secretary of the Malaysian Society of Intensive Care and a key member of the National Specialist Registry, she also teaches at Taylor’s University and focuses her research on severe dengue.
